IKRAM Condemns The Death Sentence On Egypt's Democratically Elected President

Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (IKRAM) condemns the sentencing of the death penalty to Dr Mohammed Morsi along with over 100 other members of the Muslim Brotherhood in connection with a mass jail break in 2011.

IKRAM believes that the sentencing of  Egypt’s first democratically elected President is politically motivated and is intended to repress democratic opposition movements.

This death sentence and all the mass death sentences earlier were conducted in the manner that is inconsistent with Egypt's international obligations and the rule of law.

Egypt has blatantly disregarded its obligations under the African Charter and international law with regards to the execution of Mahmoud Ramadan in March this year.

IKRAM shares the concern and insist that international community should not continue conducting usual relations with Egypt while its coup leaders continue meting out death sentences to thousands including Egypt's only ever democratically elected President.

IKRAM would like to urge the government of Malaysia to bring this matter up to the UN Security Council, highlighting all the international law violations being perpetrated by the current regime in Egypt.

IKRAM believes that only when justice prevails in Egypt and in other parts of the world, the dream of world peace can become a reality.
